I usually takes me likker straight and I can easily handle multiple shots of rum, bourbon, whiskey and gin but recently hobtheknife brought home Slivovitz (plum brandy). His paternal ancestors are from a region of Poland known for its fruit - and fruit brandies - and he fondly remembers this liquor from family gatherings. Two shots knocked me on my ass.

hobtheknife: D'you want more?
[info]mizstorge: No, if I have any more I won't be able to walk up the stairs.

I wonder if there's not some genetic component involved here, being my ancestors hailed from the British Isles?

Half my English relatives drink like fish. I just have my occasional nip at the Chambord.

Then again, I wonder.... Generations of Brits all stopping at the pub for lunch and a pint or so, then again in the evening for a handful. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if Brits had genetically adapted to be more tolerant, like the French, perhaps.
