I caved!

I caved, damn it. I went into the arena, and now I'm cacking madly over kicking people's asses. (Well, okay, I did lose once so far, but whatever.)

Huh

I admit, I actually like what FFN has done. Not only can you now properly place crossover stories as crossovers (I went ahead and fixed Convergence and Persequor), but you now see the character selections in the info line, which means I can spy that revolting little Harry P & Ginny W and ignore the living daylights out of those (etc., etc., so on and so forth).

In other news, while I have yet to reach level 30 with my higher character (Nimby, presently 26, Justus, presently 25), I am still waffling like mad over which sidekick to choose when I'm able. While I do not care in the least about the increased carrying capacity of the Kid, I do care about the extra AP and the loot stuff. I already chafe at a mere 30AP per day, so more would be welcome. On the other hand, the Accountant with her skills at buffing my zorkmid stash and giving me discounts to purchase and bonuses on sale of loot, in theory giving me the ability to purchase better equipment faster.... I just don't know.

I'm also getting use out of one of the Fanucci calculators, here. I was doing all right on my own with the diagrams, but the calculator is squeezing out extra points for me, which is always welcome.

For what it's worth

I received my Dreamwidth invite code, so I tossed up a very quick, very empty journal for the moment here. (After all, I have my AP to get through in Legends of Zork, and that waits for no man.)

Yeeha!

Holy snikes, Batman! In two consecutive encounters I picked up the 5 and 6 of Fromps! Wow.

Minor Mini Rant

Aiieeeee! Would you freakin' people put the summary at the head of chapter one!?!?!?

Another Pointless Post

I've realized that a lot of people put a great deal of thought into their chapter titles, often with some arcane and mysterious reasoning or pattern behind them.

And then I realized, I almost never pay attention to what chapters are called, even though I've always named my own. It's like they don't register.

Just a Brief, Mild Rant

La la la—what's this? Why are people so damn insistent on giving Harry "bronze" skin? That would look really friggin' peculiar.

Hehehe

The stupidest thing in the world to squee over, and I found it. I was curious about a name I saw on the Adventurer's Traffic Report for Legends of Zork (it started with a K and arrived at Frostham and was probably giving a weather report for all I know, except that it wasn't the name I would expect for that, so maybe it wasn't that person at all) and I wanted to look them up (and then my own selves, because I was curious as to the number for my gambits).

But anyway... GRUEgle! Squee! Squee! Who doesn't love grues!?

Uh...

It's absolutely fucked-up weird what you'll stumble over while reading Let's Play threads.

Er, right

So, Legends of Zork opened up today. Naturally, I dashed over and created an account. Man, thirty action points gets spent real quick. I'm also surprised that huge diamonds sell for so few zorkmids. :(

This Week at the One Desk

So... the "boys" have decided to be boys. They came home two days ago with a set of remote control helicopters. Not shockingly, Storm flees the moment one of them gets that gleam in their eyes, but Shadow, oddly enough, is cautiously curious. Sadly, the little suckers are light enough that the ceiling fans tend to send them spinning off course. They're kind of like drunken dragonflies, really, and they almost sound like them, too.

Played more Liberal Crime Squad. Finally managed to get some electronic hijinks going, and sent off a team of brainwashed people to raid some places. Getting a better feel for "combat", you see, plus looting and destroying equipment. Still have yet to steal a damn car.

Considering getting Evil Genius.

Making more progress on the Project Nimby.

Time Wasters

Been playing a new game: Liberal Crime Squad.

It's pure text, menu driven, and nothing fancy. I also suck at it. (Then again, given the number of people in Let's Play threads saying their glorious leader keeps getting his face blown off, killed, etc., I can't feel too badly about that.)

I have yet to successfully have a minion steal a damn car. Maybe I should just stick to seducing and breaking with my leader, and let the recruits do the dangerous stuff. I definitely need to start recruiting athletes and building a squad of unholy terror. Those bunnies need freedom!

Cowardice!

FLORIDA—Today, in an astonishing revelation, it was revealed that Shadow and Storm run like bitches in the face of a bubble-blowing can opener (human, for those who do not speak cat). Readers will no doubt remember an earlier article (which may or may not have actually been written) that these cats also run from wind-up mice.

*sigh*

This is like Sims 2 all over again. I just downloaded another ton of custom content for SimCity 4. *sobs* But how could I resist?!?

Mar. 3rd, 2009

And naturally...

...the first thing I do after installing Sim City 4 Deluxe and getting my feet wet is start downloading mods (I'm drowning in acronyms!) and maps. Now all I need is a huge graph-paper notebook and a portable void. And if I could just figure out this roundabout thing.... And for some strange reason I have this urge to go look at RPG maps. Oh look! One for Riven.

By the way, I started a quasi-experiment using Tropico (and I spent way too much time on that damn scroll). It's not exactly a story (certainly not in the grand tradition of most After Action Reports), but... whatever. Due to this I modified the §imLife menu. (And that reminds me, I really need to do something about the main one.) I figured, it's a type of simulation game, so why not?

AAR

Visited Mr Dentist for two root canals. The idea doesn't bother me at all, really, despite what people say about it being such a horrifying experience. I learned differently due to the original one.

Bah Humbug

The heck with all these newfangled games! Why, in my day, we only had text and sixteen colours! That's right!

So, I've been playing around with a couple of emulator-type dealies so I can get me some good old fashioned Infocom lovin'. That's right. Of course, all those years playing DragonRealms has me frequently typing in stuff like "sigh" and "roll eyes" and having the parser get all pissy at me, but whatever, right? (Sadly, Mr Parser does not recognize commands like: stabbity <target>, the bastard.)

As much as I'd like to blow $50 on a permanent account at IJ, I just can't justify it. I also can't justify $20 over at Something Awful to get an account and access to archive threads, so I guess I'll just have to content myself with non-archived Let's Play threads. *sobs* Still, I'm having a serious craving to reinstall Tropico and the expak, and maybe certain Myst games. There's just something about wandering around in the D'ni city that's... magical.

Writing, you say? Don't be silly! I'm too busy surfing my brains out. Though, I did get a Nimby request, so I may just go do that soon, as I get the feeling the Let's Play cornucopia is about to tap out. (Okay, fine, I do have a number of chapters/stories in progress, but those are top secret still.)

Meanwhile, we've been beadily eyeing the calendar, waiting for the 26th to arrive so we can get those permanent caps in place. While not sick of yogurt, I would like to be able to eat actual food. You know, like steak, damn it!!!! Or that chicken John used to make and gave me a recipe for ages and ages ago, not that I cook, because I can't cook, but that's part of why I married someone who can, right?

Tried (very carefully) one bite of a blue raspberry Twizzler from the fruity rainbow pack and hated it. Almost no flavor, they're limp and hard to manage, and they leave a nasty aftertaste. It's like flavored coffee, you know? The smell is fabulous, but the taste? Blech. Except, the smell of the fruity rainbow pack is like someone dumped several gallons of Kool-Aid on the floor, which brings back not-so-fond memories of Jim Jones.

Having said all that, I really don't have anything of interest to say, do I. Bwuahahahaha!
